Alphawest first to get new Cisco datacentre equipment

Optus subsidiary is the first Australian channel partner to bring C-Series Rack-Mount Servers into the market

Alphawest has become the first Cisco partner to demonstrate a new element of the networking giant’s Unified Computing System (UCS) to local audiences.

The Optus subsidiary demonstrated the UCS C-Series Rack-Mount Server at the Cisco Networkers 2009 event this week. CEO, Rob Parcell, said it represented a major win for the integrator given it was still early in the product’s global distribution cycle.

“The government sector is strong and corporates are now starting to find a need to refresh their equipment. We see it as an important step in the development of the cloud, and we’ve had a lot of interest from customers,” Parcell said.

Alphawest is a Cisco Datacentre Unified Computing Authorised Technology Provider accredited and also partners with VMware to build private enterprise cloud computing solutions for customers.

Cisco announced the arrival of UCS kit in Australia in mid-August. The C-Series rack was unveiled in the US in early June, and represents an entry level into UCS for customers

The C-Series Servers comprises of three models and offers access to unified fabric through a low-latency lossless 10Gbps Ethernet foundation, memory technology designed to yield more of the addressable memory of current two-socket rack-mount platforms, and a Network adapter, Host bus adapted consolidation and I/O virtualisation capabilities onto a converged network adapter.
