DWS secures e-tax tender

The ASX-listed services company scores an e-tax services and maintenance contract with the Australian Taxation Office

ASX-listed DWS Advanced Business Solutions (ASX:DWS) has won a major tender for the Australian Tax Office’s (ATO) e-tax program.

The contract is worth $10 million over three years, but DWS CEO, Danny Wallis, said its value is much higher.

“The tender is for support and maintenance, but with each change in legislation, the e-tax program itself needs to be changed, and there are two one-year optional extensions to the contract,” Wallis said.

“It’s also very significant beyond the $10 million value as it represents confidence from the ATO. This contract was the major one that came with our acquisition of Turnaround Solutions [in 2005] , so to win it was a positive reflection on our relationship with the ATO.”

The e-tax program was a significant piece of work that took the entire year to complete, Wallis said.

e-tax is the ATO’s free tax return software that allows individuals to prepare and lodge income tax returns online.

A release to the ASX claimed more than 2.2 million individuals lodged returns through e-tax in 2008. That number is expected to increase in 2009.

Nominations for the 2012 ARN IT Industry Awards open on Tuesday, June 12.
