Henning Kagermann will join Wipro's board

Former SAP CEO Henning Kagermann is joining the board of India's third-largest outsourcer, Wipro, the company said on Tuesday in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.
With the addition of Kagermann, seven of the board's eleven members will be independent, the company said. His appointment to Wipro's board is effective from Oct. 27.
Kagermann is currently the president of Acatech, also known as the German Academy of Science and Engineering, which represents the interests of German sciences and technology in Germany and abroad.
He is also on the supervisory boards of Deutsche Bank, Munich Re, Deutsche Post, and Nokia.
Indian outsourcing companies have appointed foreigners to their boards in a bid to present an international image to clients and investors.
India's second-largest outsourcer, Infosys Technologies, had former U.S. Senator Larry Pressler on its board until 2006, while Bill Owens, former CEO and vice chairman of the board of Nortel Networks, is also on the board of Wipro.
