NBNco gets fresh faces

Three new faces join NBNco but news still tightly controlled

The executive team of the NBNco is getting its final touches with executive chair, Michael Quigley appointing three new faces.

Joining NBNco, which was set up to work in partnership with the private sector to construct the Federal Government’s $43 billion National Broadband Network (NBN), is ex-McKinsey employee, Christie Bryce, former Qantas employee, Kevin Brown, and Tim Smeallie, a former telco analyst.

The trio add to the existing members of the company. They include board members Doug Campbell, Peter Hay, Siobhan McKenna, Diane Smith-Gander and Gene Tilbrook.

In late August, TNBNco, the Tasmanian subsidiary of NBNco set up to rollout the network on the island state, appointed its last three board members: Mark Kelleher, Dr Daniel Norton and Sean Woellner. Their appointments added to the four existing directors to bring the total to seven. The news of the latest appointments to NBNco follows it becoming a member of Communications Alliance, a telecommunications industry body.

NBNco executive chair, Quigley, is scheduled to talk at the industry body’s next forum on Tuesday, September 15, to outline the next steps in the infrastructure project.

However, the lack of clarity around the NBN and the fact news has been tightly controlled with both the Federal Government, particularly the Communications Minister, Senator Stephen Conroy, and the NBNco keeping their cards close to their chests, has led several analysts to suggest public discourse has been lacking.

Nominations for the 2012 ARN IT Industry Awards open on Tuesday, June 12.
