UXC and Entellect Solutions launch new education play

UXC subsidiary, Eclipse Computing, has jumped into bed with education player and ASX-listed entity, Entellect Solutions’ (ASX: ESN) subsidiary, MXL Consolidated, to take an integrated management application, called EduPoint, to market.

The EduPoint solution is based on Microsoft software and involves Dynamics AX from the Eclipse side of the deal and MXL’s student management system platform eMinerva and its reporting and assessment platform, VSTARS.

MXL sales and marketing manager, David Stone, said the collaborative approach was sparked by the need to address the complexity faced by schools.

“In essence, it is an understanding of collaboration,” he said. “We have got these products that are currently talking to each other so we are formalising this relationship and formalising the go-to-market strategy at the same time.” The two companies will continue to operate separately where appropriate but also share clients. In a statement to the ASX, Eclipse business solutions director, Martin Wildsmith, said there was “huge opportunity” for the tie-up in the market.

“EduPoint offers like-minded schools the opportunity to come together and implement one application that will deliver a single, unique student record and simplify the multiple layers of information and data access issues many schools are facing today,” he said.

The announcement comes after UXC (ASX:UXC), posted a reduction in year-on-year profits despite an increase in its revenue.

Full year profits after tax were $18.85 million, compared with $26.48 million for the previous year. The company was keen to emphasise revenue growth from $611.57 million to $715 million.

The company’s business solutions group focuses on ICT solutions for the government and enterprise market. Its earnings dropped by 21 per cent to $28.7 million despite an 8.2 per cent increase in revenue to $440 million. The company blamed the difficult economy and rising costs for the downturn.

The Eclipse subsidiary is a Microsoft business solutions provider and recently opened an office in Vancouver, Canada. It is also a Microsoft Gold Partner.

MXL, meanwhile, has been providing Web-based student administration and curriculum management software to the education sector for 10 years and is a Microsoft Gold Partner. Its head office is in Sydney but it also operates through partners in the UK, Europe, South East Asia, Latin America and former USSR countries.
