After 12 years with the company, Rob Sommerich has resigned from his national display product manager position at audiovisual distributor, Amber Technology. He has moved on to become the channel manager of Asia-Pacific and other regions for Swiss networked video vendor, Spinetix.
The vendor signed Amber Technology as its sole distributor for the digital signage range in March and, according to Sommerich, that will remain the same. Former NEC digital signage product manager, Andrew Shearer, will be taking over the role at Amber and Sommerich has been working with the company to facilitate the transition.
While leaving Amber was a hard decision, Sommerich said his position at Spinetix allows him to work in an international role.
“In the next 12 months, I will be reviewing Spinetix’s Asia-Pacific distribution channel, with a focus on Asia round to South Africa,” he said. “I will also be looking for distributors in Asia and assist them to attack the market and grow it for themselves and the products.”
Sommerich will visit Europe to liaise with the Spinetix team in Switzerland as well as attend the IBC electronic media industry conference in Amsterdam. He will also spend some time in other markets to develop strategies that can be utilised in his given regions.
“I will be talking to the European partners and on the way back, I will visit the US to see the distributor over there,” he said. “I probably won’t be that involved in the European side since I don’t have the language skills but I will be travelling to South Africa.”
Prior to his employment at Amber Technology, Sommerich was the NSW, ACT and QLD sales manager for Quinto Communications, a broadcast media distributor. He has also worked for classroom and audiovisual manufacturer, Command Systems.
Nominations for the 2012 ARN IT Industry Awards open on Tuesday, June 12.
