State of the market
- The markets rose sharply in morning trading thanks largely to strong gains in the US and Europe. They then consolidated and rose again in the afternoon. The ASX 200 closed at 4426.1, up 135.5 points.
- The Aussie dollar is back above the US0.80 mark and currently trades at $US0.8402. Gold is up and selling for $US954.7 an ounce while oil is trending upwards at $US73.9 a barrel
