Synnex spends $2.5m on Melbourne offices, trucks

Melbourne HQ expected to house up to 150 staff within five years

IT distributor, Synnex, has spent $2.5 million to expand its Melbourne headquarters and increase its transport fleet.

Synnex is purchasing an additional 12 trucks to bring its national fleet to 40 at a cost of $500,000. The company also expects to bring on board an additional 100 staff over the next five years.

The additional facilities include a training theatre and a larger boardroom, with the office expected to accommodate 150 employees at its peak.

The move is part of a plan embarked on in May last year to ramp up its Australian infrastructure investment to grow its logistics and sales capabilities. At the time the plan was announced, Synnex CEO, Kee Ong, said the distributor would spend up to $20 million in the next couple of years expanding its local capabilities.

In August, it opened a new premises in the Perth suburb of Malaga that measures about 2500sqm and then in November it expanded its Sydney operations with a new location spanning over two units in the suburb of Lidcombe.

The extra Melbourne office space comes on the back of increasing business for the distributor. Hardware vendor, HP, recently appointed Synnex to sell its full range of consumer and commercial desktops. The distie was also selected as the sole launch partner of Gateway Computers.
