Excom Education launches first Green IT training courses

Excom Education has launched a range of Green IT courses, as green credentials continue to be a hot topic for organisations.

Three courses have been initially offered – Green IT: Fundamentals, Green IT: Design and Implementation, and Green IT: Choosing and Implementing the Right Carbon Emission Management Software. Each of the courses requires a day or two for completion.

Excom CEO, Jim Watson, said the launch of the programs was in response for a growing demand for green education in the IT space.

“Green is an issue that is here to stay,” he said. “As companies are forced to comply they will have to be skilled up properly.”

More than 100 people have committed to upcoming courses, and Excom is planning to add a fourth course in October. It will targeting end-users to help them write Green IT into procurement, Watson said.

The courses were developed with the aid of Connection Research. A survey commissioned by Excom among more than 250 Australian IT departments about their Green IT practices and policies found that many organisations consumed as much as 50 per cent of their total power consumption from within their IT infrastructure.
