WhiteGold becomes third distributor for Astaro

Security vendor, Astaro, has appointed its third local distributor, with WhiteGold Solutions joining Softgen and TechPlus.
WhiteGold Solutions managing director, Dominic Whitehand, said the partnership would help the distributor expand its presence into New Zealand, and give it an additional cloud computing play that wouldn't compete with existing vendor partners.
“That the relationship includes New Zealand is great for our plans to have a presence there by the end of the year,” Whitehand said.
“There are a lot of resellers in the market talking about virtual technologies, and now we have access to a full suite of virtual appliances, and we don’t see Astaro as encroaching on existing partnerships – we see opportunities to grow new channels with this one.”
Astaro vice-president of sales, Asia Pacific and Japan, Guy Coles, said the vendor’s plans to grow its channel required it to appoint a third, strong partner.
“We needed to go up a tier with our distributor partners,” Coles said. “WhiteGold has the international presence to help us open up new markets.”
Existing partners Softgen, which was promoted to full distributor status earlier in the year, and TechPlus have had a positive reaction to the additional appointment, Coles said.
“We believe it will be business as usual for those partners servicing their existing customers,” he said. “WhiteGold really presents us with an opportunity to expand our reseller base.”
TechPlus managing director, Paul Kern, said while he expected a degree of conflict to come as a result of the appointment, he was unconcerned with the overall impact.
“How much of a conflict that will be generated we will have to wait and see,” Kern said.
“Astaro has not really been a big part of our business.”
This is the second new partnership to have been announced by WhiteGold in the past month, following on from TADASoft, announced last week.
