• Rumours that Protac has exited the distribution business persist, with further indications that its business has ceased.
• After more than seven years out of the market computer vendor, Acer, has re-launched Gateway PC in Australia but restricted it to selected resellers, a single distributor and one major retail partner.

State of the market

• The market bounced back after yesterday’s fall. At 11:45am the ASX 200 was up 46.8pts at 4307.7.
• The Aussie dollar has risen more than half a per cent and is buying $US0.8451. Gold is down at $US966.3 an ounce while oil is up at $US72 a barrel.
