Nortel has picked 20-year veteran, Rick Seeto, to replace Mark Fioretto as the head of its enterprise business in Australia and New Zealand.
Seeto, who has been in China and Singapore for the past three years, will be based in Sydney and responsible for Nortel’s operations in the region. He will also continue to play a part in the vendor’s global go-to-market strategy and partner programs.
Seeto previously held senior positions within Nortel including regional president and regional general manager of enterprise networks.
In a statement, the vendor said Fioretto recently left Nortel to pursue other opportunities.
The news comes on the back of the announcement that Avaya plans to purchase Nortel's enterprise solutions business for $US475 million. The reports led partners and analysts to suggest Cisco’s dominance in the Australian market place could be challenged by the tie up.
Sweden's LM Ericsson was also recently announced as the winning bidder for the wireless assets of Nortel Networks.
The vendor offloaded its channel functions to Westcon Group in Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines in May after experiencing a difficult year, and in January filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
