Synnex has found a second key product for its consumer electronics ambitions in TiVo.
The distributor has partnered with vendor, Hybrid TV, to take the TiVo media device to retailers, and to provide the resellers with after-sales service, credit facilities and account management.
Synnex product marketing, management and purchasing division manager, Darren Tan, said the growing convergence between consumer electronics and IT meant the distributor needed to strengthen its AV line of products.
“AV is a part of consumer electronics for us,” Tan said. “The Microsoft Xbox partnership gave us one key product for us in consumer electronics. The TiVo is our first step into the AV side of things.
“We needed a strong partner for that play.”
In a release, Hybrid TiVo CEO, Robbee Minicola said that by joining forces with Synnex, the vendor was hoping to deliver better service to its retailers, which will in turn impact its reach.
“Managing the supply chain more efficiently can only benefit everyone in the process, and ultimately the consumer,” Minicola said in the release.
This is the second retail partnership for the distributor this month, following on from a relationship with GPS vendor, Navigon.
There were more partnership announcements to be made soon, Tan said.

TiVo in the channel
The convergence of home entertainment products and AV with IT has been happening for some time, but it's interesting to see such an IT hardware stalwart like Synnex now taking on TiVo's solutions.
The company has slowly but surely been inching its way into the consumer retail market, with the biggest win being Microsoft's Xbox distribution last year, and the Navigon products last month. This TiVo deal is another string to the bow, and another way for Synnex to diversify from its components heritage.
