Altech signs with XFX

Altech hopes to arrest the slide of XFX's market share

Graphics card vendor, XFX, has signed a new Australian distribution deal with Altech Computers.

Altech marketing manager, Kevin Hartin, said the deal came about after more than 12 months of discussions between the two parties.

“A couple of years back it was a clear number three behind the two big names, Asus and Gigabyte, but in recent times the position of the product has slid a little bit," he said.

“Some graphics cards vendors tend to be stronger at the lower end of the market. Others tend to be aimed at the enthusiast end of the spectrum. We see XFX fitting at that top end."

In late 2008, XFX signed Australia IT as its second national distributor.

Hartin said XFX stock arrived on July 13, with several online resellers already advertising the products.

“Our core resellers are the shop fronts and system builders and those guys will certainly benefit from a strong brand like that in their shop,” Hartin said.

The deal is the latest in a series between Altech and hardware makers. In early June it signed on motherboard-maker, Albatron, and in late May it started distributing Arctic Cooling products.

what happened with EVGA Altech?

Altech are only interested in price

MMT are now distributing EVGA... Altech were not interested in treating EVGA like the Tier 1 product that they are.

Tier 1 products command a price premium due to the higher quality and better support... at least now the brand will be supported the way it should be! :)

I guess altech doesn't know how to deal with Premium vendors for long anyway:

Reseller - There goes my profit

I used to make money selling XFX cards, especially the overclocked cards. Now that Altech are distributing it, they'll give the product to every dealer at a cheap price, including online shops. I know for one, I'll stop buying XFX now.

warranty

I wonder if Altech will still give warranty on the few EVGA products I got from them??? Or would MMT help me on that ?

LOL...........If MMT stock levels of EVGA is anything like their XFX then its no real gain for MMT.

Reseller - There goes my profit

Im a reseller that stopped buying XFX a while ago....MMT was dumping the product on the market to all the big players...There was no money to be made - This is a common issue I have with most disties.

Well you definitely won't see any help from Altech with that, especially with the amount of online stores they support

Hmm you might want to double check on that 1 as i do believe they have got distribution back so might want to research first huh.

does xfx have stock anyway

stock has been a problem with xfx for a while, mmt always seem to be short on supply for XFX nvidia card, i doubt Altech will help much on that either. Well it just means I have choice to buy XFX when there is limited stoch. MMT warranty is easier to deal with. I'll buy from Altech if MMT doesnt have stock. Australia IT was a joke, they never had stock. Todaytech are just useless. 4 distributors for XFX seems a little extreme, I'd understand if it was just gigabyte or asus.

Stock levels at MMT seem much better than what Altech ever was. They got everything in stock except GTX285. If you're quick, they still might have some EVGA GTX295 left, I just picked mine up today.

Hmm you might want to double

No Altech does not have EVGA distribution as they cant sell enthusiast products and admitadly more expensive brands, EVGA isnt cheap, neither is XFX compared to Asus/Giga. The stock they have is just left overs

they cant sell enthusiast products ???

RE: they cant sell enthusiast products ???

HAH - you probably work there?! Don't you sell monitors / intel CPU / laptops to your customers because I know they don't have any of them either.

everyone knows that you only buy from Altech if you buy in bulk or enjoy making 1-2%.

whats silverstone anyway? rubbish psu + plastic case?

they cant sell enthusiast products ???

I said Im an enthusiast selling primarily to enthusiast....Laptops arent enthusiast products, I'll leave that to other resellers wanting to making 0.5% margin...Monitors I currently get from MMT, Synnex and Altech..depends who has the better price. CPUs at altech are usually cheaper than other disties so I know i can get good deals if I buy more stuff from the one place....Same as what MMT did for me when i bought more than 3-4 items at a time. As for silverstone being rubbish, well you are entitled to your own opinion. My customers love them and they are considered a niche product which may be out of your depth.

key laptop @ enthusiasts MSI GX series. What happened there

Bang for buck I must admit MSI GX series are good, but hardly a niche product...My customers tend to stay away from MSI due to their reputation with mobos, etc. Support is lot to be desired.

more distributors just means more competition and better price for us resellers. thats a good thing for me. but more resellers will now start doing xfx so there goes my profit.

doesnt matter fellow reseller, Altech will always get another brand to price skim and we can still go for short term profit. Most company dealing with Altech will be familiar with the pattern

Altech will go hard-on with any VGA card, nothing can stop it. This is great news for all yum cha resellers who wants to pinch top of static ice

MMT will be finding hard time to go on battle with ALTECH on XFX, ALTECH has more exciting product range can bundle up

Cheap XFX everyone can hold a sec

I can imagine XFX will be cheaper now on, everyone can buy cheap at anytime you want. It won't be too hard buy on-line, but it will be hard to hold on the price for second

They both love making 50cents per unit sometimes. Good to see no one making no margin at the end.

MMT normally dont stock up any products. OR we they have more than 50 units on anythiong , they just sell $1 above cost and kill vendors and other distributors. AT the end no one wants to sell that brand because there is no money there.

Altech has to have hard on competing with MMT since MMT will be protecting their turf. But will be watching for the bundle skills in the battlefield

I can't hold for a second if ALTECH gets XFX, my main profit comes from XFX VGA card. We enjoy nice margin from time to time, now I'm going to end up making $1 for each card I sold. Instead of having turkey this X'mas I'll be sitting home eating instant noodles

Sir can you hold me a second? if your business thrive on $1 margin then IT business will be hard on yourself. As a reseller we need to find our niche market and provide excellent customer service. There are still many people who are willing to pay extra for pre and post sales service, those who whinge about pricing, well you can ask them to hold you for a second before attending to them.

Second tier business is clearly more important - you can sell it easier to say "generic" compared to a brand.

now we know they will take it fixed in a minute, so what it actually say is :

!!!

now amaztech is meant to be in HK, but Kevin ala Marketing Pro is in AU? and isnt amazetech exclusive to altech? this is a interesting hard on triangle
