Updated: Intel drops TodayTech

Decision follows an annual review of the component vendor's Australian distribution line-up

Intel has dropped TodayTech from its Australian distribution ranks.

Intel area sales manager, Thomas Tapsas, confirmed the decision to end the relationship was made on July 7. TodayTech has been an authorised Intel distributor for processors and motherboards since 1998. Intel’s other Australian distributors are Synnex and Ingram Micro.

“We regularly review our business operations in Australia and New Zealand. The decision we have made is that our two [remaining] distributors – Ingram Micro and Synnex – are best positioned to work with our resellers across both countries,” Tapsas said. “Most of our customers, if not all of them, have relationships with these two players. We also have the same distributors in both countries, which provides us with a faster go-to market and will make us more efficient – we can rollout programs quicker.

“Partners continue to have access to the same amount of stock and same points of presence.”

According to Tapsas, Intel’s channel business has been solid for the last few years and continued to be resilient despite the downturn.

TodayTech managing director, Jack Zhong, also confirmed its distribution agreement with Western Digital ended in July. The distributor will continue to stock both product lines but now source these from other authorised distributors.

TodayTech was founded in Sydney, Australia in 1990 by Jack Zhong, originally as a reseller, then PC assembler. It has since established offices in Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia. The distributor’s vendor line-up includes Western Digital, Samsung, AOC, Canon, Chenbro, Phillips LCDs and MSI.

It also attained distribution status for Intel CPUs and motherboards in China in 2003.

Tapsas said it hoped to continue to work with TodayTech as a customer through its other distributors.

The termination of TodayTech’s Intel contract follows the loss of distribution status for Samsung printers after a restructure of the vendor’s partners last year.

Altech probably get their CPU

Altech probably get their CPU from INGRAM or HK

Why, they'll go direct.....

Why, they'll go direct.....

Altech

HAH! What will Altech (failtech) do for CPU now?

HISTORY like MJ

They gone in history like Michael Jackson, here is a song for TT

"MC is not my lover,
It just the BiA$^$%,
Who claims that I'm the one,
but the TT is not my son"

Todaytech ==> Yesterdaytech

If TT ops I mean YT getting CPU from INGRAM, might as well get from INGRAM straight, unless YT wants to sell below cost to keep the business running... otherwise just matter of time it will become history ==> YESTERDAYTECH

MMMM price rises 4 sure

Whoever wrote monopoly up there.. is correct.

TT will probably get them from Ingram now, and synnex and ingram can raise their prices.

By the way, TT is nowhere near the size of synnex, which is about 1/6 the size of ingram, and you used to work there???????? lol

oh well, gotta give AMD something at the moment...

today tech tomorrow gone

today tech tomorrow gone

today tech tomorrow gone

today tech tomorrow gone

I used to work for a company

I used to work for a company that buys from Todaytech. But because since M left, there's no one to build relation to, i became very close to M for 4 years, yes 4 complete years!!! we had so much fun together, i enjoyed every minute of it. IT industry is a beautiful business with beautiful people, wish TT all the best.

A.

They might look after the

They might look after the bigger players but the ones that get affected are the small resellers. We are just a number to them nothing more....TT has always given personal service and competitive pricing which I think the bigger disties in mention lack.

Monopoly

I dont think so dude, remember Synnex and Ingram are in the picture and they are always locking horns with each other. It is a pity Today tech are out, but at least we all can save one phone call to find out pricing from the competition.

I wonder what is next for Today Tech, as Intel is significant to their business.

toilet

they should have build a gold private toilet last year, otherwise all this can be avoid

is this the END?

First lost hair... then LG and now it's INTEL, whatelse it's there to lose?

Monopoly

Less competition means prices will rise....this will affect the entire reseller channel in a negative way, what was Intel thinking!!!

It's huge

Although the above poster might not have dealt with TT, hundreds of other major and minor system integrators and resellers did.

TT is just as big as Synnex and Ingram, kept similar stock levels of Intel goods across all lines. I know because I worked there.

This is actually a huge event. However I'm surprised that TT wasn't approached for comment in this article. I've heard that there is more to this story than meets the eye.

No Difference

Never really dealt with Today Tech so it shouldn't make any difference.
It may affect the YUMCHA resellers thou??
It will be nice to have real competition to Ingram and Synnex thorough another disti with similar capabilities?
