J2 dives into distribution

Vendor takes distribution into its own hands after its former partner withdrew from the Australian market

UK-based specialist vendor, J2 Retail Systems (J2), has dived into the distribution business.

J2 manufactures point-of-sale hardware as well as touchscreen terminals for the retail, hospitality and leisure industries. The vendor decided on the move after its Taiwanese-owned sole distributor, EBN Australia, went into administration. Instead of hunting down a new partner, J2 seized the opportunity to start up its own operation.

A wholly-owned subsidiary, J2 Retail Systems Pty Ltd, has commenced operations, managing the sales business across Australia and New Zealand.

Based from its Sydney office, the new company is headed up by former EBN general manager, Phil Wild.

Aleks Nikolovski is the technical manager.

Wild expects J2 Retail Systems to reel in $3-4 million in revenues this financial year.

He also revealed plans by the vendor to expand J2’s presence in Asia-Pacific. The vendor is in talks with Ingram Micro’s global operations to establish distribution channels in other countries in the region.

J2 managing director, Moray Boyed, said in a statement that the decision was also motivated by the company’s success in Australia and the need to provide a rounded service to UK-based clients such as technical support.

The subsidiary has about 50 resellers and is eager to recruit more.
