APC to grow with Ingram Micro

Expanded relationship with Ingram Micro will help vendor to cover the growing market opportunities
Matthew Sainsbury  09 July, 2009 14:11:00

APC has expanded its relationship with Ingram Micro to help cover the vendor’s growing market opportunities.

Ingram Micro has distributed APC’s UPS and rack solutions for eight years. It will now also have access to the vendor’s physical architecture solution, InfraStruXure, and its range of data centre power distribution and cooling solutions.

APC country general manager, Gordon Makryllos, said the vendor had been seeing growth to the extent that it wanted to hire an additional 14 people.

“As we are a 100 per cent channel driven company, we also need to broaden our distribution channels,” Makryllos said.

“We are also represented by Express Data and DPSA in the market, but with the growing market we’re not so much carving up the pie but rather expanding the pieces for everyone.”

APC has no intention on bringing on further partners, Makryllos said. It had no desire to over distribute the market. In a release, Ingram Micro general manager enterprise technology group, David Lenz said the expanded relationship would be a complementary one for the distributor’s existing offerings.

Ingram Micro has also appointed a new solutions architect to support reseller engagement and provide them with a dedicated enterprise configuration and test laboratory.

seriously?

Obviously, you don't know how to deal with Ingram. They've got approx. 100 vendors so no customer service/account manager is going to be able to speak technically about UPS' with someone who's been selling it for 10 yrs. Perhaps you should be speaking with their APC BDM or Solutions Architect?? APC aren't adding a distributor, they're just giving a current disti access to another line of product.

You have got to be kidding me

I am not sure this is the right decision by APC to bring on Ingram for these types of solutions. As a reseller who has been selling APC for more than 10 years i can tell you that Ingram have no idea what a UPS is would struggle to even hold a 5 minute conversation about this technology. You are not going to grow your business by signing up more distributors APC. Focus on lead generation and get your sales on more joint calls.

APC and Ingram Micro

Let's hope Ingram do a better job with large solutions than they do with regular product and ED and DPSA survive long enough to clean up the mess after this change remodels the market.
Is there a viable alternative to APC if the smaller distributers fall by the wayside?
