Alphawest to trial vCloud

VMware's Beta program part of a substantial investment the Optus subsidiary is making in expectation of the technology's longevity

Optus subsidiary, Alphawest, has joined the beta program for VMware’s global vCloud.

VMware’s vCloud Beta program is a pilot that Alphawest will run with a group of customers for the delivery of cloud-based infrastructure that allows clients to provision and upload virtual machines into the Alphawest cloud on the Optus Evolve network.

Alphawest CEO, Rob Parcell, said it was an area the integrator had been looking at for a while, and saw the vCloud as part of the next stage of ICT with regards to the network.

“With our competencies in storage and virtualisation solutions, this is a logical area for us to invest,” Parcell said.

“Though we’re not disclosing exact figures, we are investing a sizeable amount in the technology – we want to be considered experts in this area, and believe the capabilities of it will last for the next three years.”

Alphawest’s trial customers will be in the enterprise space, with 500+ seats, Parcell said. The integrator’s Cisco Unified Computing competency would assist in providing the scale and network performance required on the Evolve network.

Alphawest was also recently awarded Global Service Provider of the year from Cisco.
