ATO signs $604 million with EDS

Government department aiming for virtualisation of datacentres

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has extended its contract with HP subsidiary, EDS, in a deal worth $604 million.

The original contract for end-user computing and centralised computing services was set to expire at the end of June 2010, but will now be extended to June 30, 2012.

ATO second commissioner, David Butler, said the extension was made to cover a transitional period in the department’s IT program.

“The extension will allow us to realise significant savings relating to our desktop computers and enable us to expand virtualisation of our existing datacentre operations,” he said in a statement. “This work will give us access to less costly and more adaptable technology.”
