Australia ranks 11th on broadband access list

Asia-Pacific countries are on top when it comes to broadband uptake

Australia has scraped in at number 11 on a new global broadband penetration list released by Strategic Analytics.

Based on household and not individual adoption, the winners were predominantly in the Asia-Pacific region. South Korea led the way with a 95 per cent penetration rate. Singapore came second with an 88 per cent rating, followed by the Netherlands on 85 per cent.

According to the IT consulting firm, domicile broadband uptake is a good key metric, as opposed to person-by-person, for determining the potential for adoption since multiple users can access one service at any given time.

Australia boasted 72 per cent household penetration while close neighbour, Indonesia, took out the wooden spoon with one per cent. The USA, with a 60 per cent rating, barely made it to the top 20.
