Printer maker, Mutoh, has brought on Alloys as an Australian distributor in partnership with Omnitech Graphics.
Mutoh specialises in large format printers for vinyl signage. Although Alloys already distributes Cannon printers of a similar size, its chief executive, Paul Harman, insisted the two lines are very different.
“They’re sold into slightly different markets. The Cannon product is both a graphic arts and a technical product,” he said. “The Mutoh product is for vinyl signage.”
The deal came about after five months of inquiries to both Mutoh and Omnitech. Harman claimed Omnitech and Alloys wouldn’t be competing in the same space.
“Realistically, Omnitech is a very specialised agent for them in NSW. We’re opening up into the less specialised IT channel that they probably haven’t accessed as well, previously,” he said.
Alloys is looking to recruit more resellers for Mutoh products, but Harman set the bar very high for any party hoping to join up.
“It’ll be sold through a very specialist group of resellers,” he said. “It requires reps, it requires understanding of colouring, and it requires understanding of product for each individual requirement, so we’re looking for resellers with that capability.”
Harman said specialist sales force training will be the focus for the next 12 months.
“It’s a specialised product, we have a specialised sales force, we have a specialised demonstration centre, and we can develop that in our partners and provide a better leverage model for Mutoh than they had previously,” he said.
