Altech signs on Albatron

Computer components vendor, Albatron, has selected Altech Computers to be its second distributor in Australia and its exclusive distributor in New Zealand and Hong Kong.

Altech marketing manager, Kevin Hartin, said the increased variety generated from the deal will appeal to the disties’ traditional targets of mid-tier and independent resellers.

“With the number of vendors Altech has, there’s inevitably going to be perceived conflict,” Hartin said. “We’ll try to concentrate certain brands with certain resellers and try to keep our products a little bit more separate.”

He said the deal was sealed after several years of discussions came to a head in the last few months when Altech’s managing director, Antony Sheen, approached Albatron.

“We offer a fairly unique opportunity for them in terms of geographical coverage. We tend to tick a lot of boxes for them and as a result they decided to come forward and be with Altech," Hartin said.

Albatron has previously been solely distributed in Australia through Albatron Australia, which is not a subsidiary company.

The Albatron deal comes on the back of Altech signing on with cooling solution vendor Arctic Cooling last week and its being dropped by Samsung in late January.
