Germany's gateProtect hunts for Australian distributor

Firewall vendor can offer 24/7 support service, a demonstration version of its product and 20 - 55 per cent discounts

Germany-based security vendor, gateProtect, is on the hunt for a distributor as it seeks to set up an Australian reseller presence.

The vendor offers extended unified threat management appliances (xUTM) and will be exhibiting for the first time at CeBIT in Sydney next week.

Benjamin Feldtmann has been appointed as a key account manager and is responsible for growing the new Asia-Pacific business.

“We’ve already figured out that it’s difficult to establish just only a reseller market because resellers are looking for a contact person in their country and they don’t want to have to contact with a manufacturer that has a 9-hour time difference,” he said.

Feldtmann said he would like to partner with a distributor that already has a presence in the security space, but doesn’t offer firewall solutions. The vendor primarily targets organisations from 10 to 1000 seats.

“If it is a distributor, which is big enough to cover A/NZ then one would be good, but if it’s not possible to find a single distributor that can do everything, then we’ll look at several distributors so the whole market can be covered,” he said. “From our experience, it’s the easiest way to get into the market and establish a good start. We have done this in other countries and it’s working well.”

The vendor can provide resellers with a 24/7 support service, a demonstration version of its firewall product – which can be downloaded from the website – and discounts that can vary from 20 to 55 per cent.

Prior to taking up the responsibility to build the Asia-Pacific region, Feldtmann has spent seven years with gateProtect and previously helped to build up its German and Austrian channel.
