yARN: The best place to work

NetApp is the second best place to work in Australia behind Google, according to the BRW Top 50 Great Places to Work list.
The list is based on research conducted by the Great Place Work Institute Australia with 15,000 employees surveyed. The research is also cultivated through a Culture Audit, which comprises a two part management questionnaire.
NetApp attributed its strong showing to its egalitarian culture, open communication, salary, unique benefits and down-to-earth management style.
“We live by the values of teamwork, productivity, leadership and innovation, which help us create bigger customer breakthroughs and retain top talent,” NetApp managing director, Peter O’Connor, said.
Distribution Central was another notable IT company achieving a good ranking, coming in at 15th spot. The company has almost doubled its staff numbers year-on-year growing from 21 in 2007 to 60 this year.
“We believe our staff are the only differentiator we have in a competitive market,” Distribution Central CEO, Scott Frew, said.
Employee initiatives include a staff recognition program, flexible working hours and dinner gatherings.
The company has been listed in the BRW Fast 100 list of Australia’s fastest growing companies for four consecutive years.
The top five companies are Google, NetApp, Russell Investments, Diageo, and Dynamic Property Services. All up there were 12 information technology companies that made the Top 50 list.
The other IT companies to make the cut included OBS at 10th spot, 13 - Gartner, 22 - Kiandra System Solutions; 38 - Tramada; 39 - Objective Corporation; 42 - TLC IT Group; 43 - Revolution IT; 44 SAS Institute Australia; 47 Aconex and 49 Advanced Solutions International.
