Vendor pushes the eco-friendly message with its new Bravia range

Sony Australia has introduced a new Bravia range with an eco-friendly message in mind.

The vendor has released the Bravia WE5 LCD TV which sports a five-star energy rating. Sony claims the micro-tubular hot cathode fluorescent lamp (HCFL) backlight panel in the WE5 eats up 40 per cent less power than conventional cathode fluorescent lamp LCD TVs while maintaining luminosity.

A presence sensor on the WE5 is also a green feature; the TV screen automatically turns on and off depending on movement in the room.

The energy saving switch allows users to shut off the TV’s power without having to unplug the power cord from the main power point, cutting standby mode power consumption to less than 0.0001W, the vendor claimed.

Following the Federal Government’s decision to phase out analogue TV channels, Sony also announced that the entire Bravia LCD line is now full high definition.

The KDL46WE5 model retails at $3799 and the KDL40WE5 at $3199
