Melbourne IT (ASX:MLB) key brand, WebCentral, has taken the wrappers off its online data protection product, Managed PC Backup.
Targeted at small and medium businesses, users can configure and schedule the product to automatically backup selected files. Data is then compressed, encrypted and sent to be stored in Australian datacentre facilities.
Managed PC Backup can also copy and store unlimited versions of backed up data locally. Information can be accessed anywhere through a secure online portal.
In a statement, Melbourne IT chief technology officer, Glenn Gore, said the product can provide an automated and secure method of protecting important data should there be an event of accidental deletion or system failure.
Set-up of Managed PC Backup is free and one account can be shared with multiple computers. Plans start from $7.95 per month for 1GB data protection.

Online Backup and Storage
I've been using Online Backup for a while now and have really enjoyed MyOtherDrive.com and their full-fledged online storage service. They also allow public and private file sharing.

Online Backup
The online backup space is getting so much more coverage than it did when we launched Carbonite here almost 12 months ago. There are still limitations with this type of service in Australia eg upload/download speeds as well as potential ISP costs for exceeding bandwidth but our experience has shown that small business and the consumer markets are becoming much more educated about the need to backup and that secondly online backup plays a key part in that strategy. Carbonite retails for AU$6 per month, unlimited backup. Great value I would say.

Online Backup
Carbonite only looks like value at the $6.00 per month.
You have to add on per seat licencing and the fact that they only keep seven (7) full days of versions. Managed PC Backup is streets ahead on its offer.
