Security software vendor, Kaspersky Lab, has teamed up with retail giant, Officeworks, in a bid to increase its national footprint.
The vendor opened its first Australian head office in Melbourne last year.
Kaspersky Lab regional channel sales manager, Andrew Mamonitis, said the partnership with Officeworks was vital for local growth.
“Given they are one of the biggest players in the antivirus market, we see Officeworks as an integral part of our expansion in Australia,” he said. “We consider this to be a very long-term partnership and expect to have a significant growth in market share by the end of the year.”
Officeworks is the first retailer on-board, but Mamonitis indicated Kaspersky Lab is seeking more partners to increase its national presence.
“We are in the middle of negotiations with a number of tier-one retailers across Australia and New Zealand to get that brand recognition out there,” he said. “We expect to have a few of those join us within the next few months.”
In a statement, Officeworks merchandise general manager, David Oakley, said the Kaspersky Lab partnership broadened the retailer’s IT solutions repertoire.
Kaspersky Lab’s products, including Internet Security and Anti-Virus 2009, are available now across Officework’s 120 stores nationally.

Good News.
I Think this is fantastic news.
I often see people in Office works handling a box of Norton 360 or some other over-priced AV software and think I should just give them the web address for the Kaspersky Online store.

Another av brand into the market
Boy - yet another brand in an already crowded market. This space already has strong players and funnily enough kaspersky is already available through the Zone Alarm products. Why would you not buy the best AV with the best firewall!

Why do home users pay for AV
First I will state that I own 2 retail stores that are in competition with Officeworks. I constantly get requests from mum's & dad's for an AV product. I always direct them to Avast (free for home use). Retailers should think of the customer first and profits second.
