Avnet has signed on as a distributor for Hitachi Global Storage Technologies following a year of discussions.
Under the partnership, the infrastructure distributor will represent Hitachi’s hard disk drive portfolio including the Travelstar, Deskstar, Ultrastar and Cinemastar lines. Avnet director of marketing and business innovation for the Asian region, Michael Costigan, said Hitachi was a good fit.
Avnet’s other storage vendors include CommVault, Data Domain and Google. The distributor also recently appointed Farrukh Azim to the storage business to help grow and support its market presence.
In a release, Hitachi Asia-Pacific managing director, James Ho, said Avnet’s data storage experience and strong presence in the region gave the vendor confidence that Avnet would help develop Hitachi’s presence and meet reseller and systems integrator demands.
The vendor has signed with Avnet for Australia and New Zealand, however Costigan said it hoped to expand the partnership regionally. Hitachi GST’s existing distributors are Altech Computers, Legend and Datastor in NZ.
“We’re not looking for any other vendors in this space at this stage,” Costigan said. “We’ll get the Hitachi partnership bedded down first by taking the products to our existing partners and start recruiting some new ones.”
