BenQ's Newton heads to Samsung

Philip Newton makes a shift to Samsung after six years with BenQ as its new director of IT

Samsung has appointed BenQ veteran, Philip Newton, as its new director of IT in an effort to elevate its national presence.

Newton was previously the managing director of BenQ, and was active in developing the vendor’s channel and home market presence. He spent six years with the vendor.

In his newly created role, Newton will be responsible for directing Samsung’s IT division, with a goal to create increased business for Samsung's print and monitor solutions.

In a release, Samsung claimed the appointment demonstrated a commitment to strengthening the brand’s IT division. Newton stated that key to Samsung’s growth was to align its product range with the evolving needs of the market, with a goal of providing a one-stop-shop to enterprises.

It is understood BenQ has promoted Chee Fui Chung to replace Newton and oversee its Australian operations.

Interesting move for Newton. I wonder if this will impact BenQ's local business and what it means if they don't decide to put someone in locally?

Good move fluffer

There was no doubt that BenQ was an innovator and Phil attributed to it's success before it's Siemens demise internationally, however Samsung is also a leading innovator with better looking balance sheets. Good luck Phil!

BenQ's Newton heads to Samsung:

Good luck working with the Koreans Phil - they won't give you the same latitude that you may have enjoyed in your previous roles
