Internode launches Extreme SHDSL

Broadband provider targets medium-sized businesses with symmetric DSL offering

National broadband provider, Internode, has launched a symmetric Internet offering for business users.

Internode claims its Extreme Symmetric High-speed Digital Subscriber Line (SHDSL) can deliver uploading and downloading speeds from 5Mbps-40Mbps. While conventional ADSL2+ services can have a high-speed download connection, data uplink speeds hover around 2.5Mbps.

The SHDSL service is being pitched at medium-sized businesses that require a fast two-way Internet for applications such as IP telephony, onsite Web services and IP video conferencing.

Adelaide will be the launching pad for SHDSL, followed by other key business locations in Australia and eventually across the wider metropolitan area.

In a statement, Internode product manager, Jim Kellett, said Extreme SHDSL was designed for businesses who had outgrown ADSL2+ services but couldn’t offered fibre optic-based Ethernet.

Prices for SHDSL start from $700 per month for 5Mbps service with a 25GB download quota, to an unlimited 40Mbps service for $4000 per month.
