Marcus Heron is stepping down from his post as IT solutions general manager at Corporate Express (ASX: CXP) after 19 years with the ASX-listed reseller.
In a statement, Corporate Express chief operating officer, Malcolm Keefe, said the decision was part of a broader review project across all lines of business including its print management, office products and marketing divisions. The project was independent of the current economic climate.
Keefe also denied Heron was retrenched and said the two had reached a mutual agreement to appoint a new leader for the IT division team.
“Marcus has been with the company for 19 years and has been fantastic and very involved in the business,” he told ARN. “We’ve had a great relationship and I’ve mentored him during his time here. But it’s time to have a different leader in the role.
“Marcus will go on to do wonderful things – we have built a significant IT business largely through him.”
The company has begun searching for a replacement and will consider internal and external candidates, Keefe said. In the interim, former operations manager across IT solutions, Andrew Cawsey, will take up the position.
There was no timeframe on appointing a successor or when Heron will exit the company, Keefe added.
Nominations for the 2012 ARN IT Industry Awards open on Tuesday, June 12.

I have kept quiet about this up until now. The news that half of the people in ITS have been given notice is sad for me to hear as I know just how much effort had gone into building that business from scratch.
The time of this article; 2009 is about the peak of Corporate Express, as it proved all downhill each year onwards. Marcus Heron built one of the largest resellers in Australia, he had a good team around him and operated the business profitably and grew it within the means afforded by the business. Then a former manager from Commander hired to replace Marcus killed the business in less than 3 years with the help of some loud talking, big spending cronies.
It will be a hard job to fix the current mess but I hope they can. Good luck to all of the former CE people in finding a job, and even more luck to those who are left behind in the wreckage.
