Nokia unveils the N97, its new flagship phone

Nokia yesterday announced its new flagship mobile, the N97. The new phone is the first Nseries unit from Nokia to boast a touch screen and the second in the company's entire range after the 5800 XpressMusic. The N97 dethrones the recently released N96 and with its QWERTY keyboard it certainly takes things in a different direction.

Nokia yesterday announced its new flagship mobile, the N97. The N97 supports Nokia's Ovi service; a mobile syncing platform for media, games, contacts and maps. The service can be directly accessed from the phone's home screen, giving users easy access to a central hub where they can share pictures, photos and videos. The N97 supports popular social-networking communities such as Facebook and MySpace and, with the ability to integrate these services with the phone's A-GPS capability, users can broadcast their "social location", dubbed "so-lo" by the phone maker. Unlike the 5800 XpressMusic, the N97 doesn't rely on its touch screen alone, with the addition of a 5-way navigation pad and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Media functionality is never lacking in Nokia's Nseries phones. The N97 features a 3.5mm headphone jack and boasts 32GB of internal memory as well as a micro-SD card slot for plenty of media storage. The 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio is slightly unusual for a phone, but it will suit the phone's integrated 5-megapix camera, which has a dual LED flash and a Carl Zeiss lens. The Nokia N97.
