Sophos has reported strong business growth

Security vendor, Sophos, has brought on new staff and is reporting strong business growth despite the economic climate.

The company recently announced a number of new appointments and promotions including Chris Brown as national manager, alliances and service providers, Shirley Wigley as New Zealand territory manager and Trent Matchett as a new channel development and accounts manager. Sophos now has more than 100 staff in Australia.

Sophos Asia-Pacific managing director, Rob Forsyth, said the vendor had also appointed channel support personnel to Perth and Melbourne.

"Geographically, we cover Australia pretty well now," he said. "From the New Year we'll look at appointing further staff as needed to support growing regions."

Forsyth said its six-month pipeline was looking very positive.

"We've been seeing that in the tough economic climate, organisations are re-evaluating what they spend their money on, and with who. It's an advantage if you're not the incumbent under these circumstances," he said.

The vendor is also in the process of filling out its suite of products following the acquisition of German encryption specialist, Utimaco, Forsyth said.
