Lenovo is expected to appoint Dicker Data and Ingram Micro as the Australian distributors for its forthcoming server product series. The decision leaves its other distribution partners, Synnex and Cellnet, restricted to PC and notebook products.

Earlier this week, the PC vendor announced its first ThinkServer series would come in five different single and dual-processor configurations and in both rack and tower designs. The units start shipping globally at the end of September and are aimed at the SMB market.

According to industry sources Ingram and Dicker were confirmed as distributors this week. Lenovo’s Australian director of channel development, workstations and servers, Matt Steele, declined to comment on the distributor appointments.

“We are finalising details on our go-to-market strategy – there are still a lot of pieces we need to pull together,” he said.

The server products are expected to begin shipping in Australia from next month.

Lenovo appointed Dicker Data as a distributor in July. Managing director, David Dicker, was excited to have access to the forthcoming server products and was confident it could drive take-up. The distributor also has access to HP servers. “Our HP server team has grown much stronger than it was a few years ago and our share of the server and storage space is good,” Dicker said. “We will bring that same type of expertise to the Lenovo server range.”

Cellnet national sales manager, Aidan Fitzgerald, said the company would concentrate on adding value to its existing range of server products from Asus, Acer and IBM.

“Lenovo is a very important vendor of ours – I’m sure they will be successful with their server range,” he said.
