Yahoo announced Wednesday oneConnect for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch, providing users a way to integrate mobile messaging and bring together contacts from a variety of social networks.
The capability is available now for free through the Apple AppStore. While available for the iPhone, Yahoo executive vice president Marco Boerries said the application will eventually be available for other devices. He made the announcement in a keynote address at the CTIA trade show.
OneConnect will provide an address book to integrate contacts from a user's Yahoo address book, the iPhone and a variety of social networks. A feature of oneConnect, called Pulse, will allow a user to quickly see what is happening across various social networks including Facebook, Flickr, MySpace, Twitter and YouTube.
Users will also be able to track their contacts on a single screen, with information on their status and the ability to quickly call or send a message or e-mail.
Nominations for the 2012 ARN IT Industry Awards open on Tuesday, June 12.
