Freshtel introduces converged mobile internet telephony service to Australia

Service allows users to make VoIP calls on mobiles when connected to a WiFi network.

Freshtel Holdings Limited [ASX: FRE] has launched a new mobile internet telephony service for Australian customers.

The service will use converged mobile technology to allow users to make VoIP calls on their mobile phones when connected to a WiFi network.

Customers will be able to retain their existing compatible phones and numbers. Calls and texts will be free to other Freshtel Mobilelink customers and substantially cheaper than mobile rates.

Freshtel is promising that typical customers will save around 50 percent on their mobile phone bills if they adopt the service.

Last week Freshtel subsidiary Tesco launched a service in the UK which uses the same technology.
