Avnet Technology Solutions’ Michael Costigan has been promoted to director of marketing and business innovation for the Asian region. He said the role was newly created in response to the distributors’ regional expansion plans.
“The need for marketing grows as we expand in Asia. My other main role will be to look at more businesses that we might be interested in acquiring,” he said.
Avnet has acquired businesses in Singapore, Malaysia and more recently India. Costigan said the initial focus was to consolidate those acquisitions before looking into making further purchases.
Locally, the distributor is finishing off the integration of its purchase of Channelworx late last year, which would continue as the platform for local growth, he said.
Costigan joined Avnet in 2002 as the marketing manager for its Avnet-IBM business unit, and from there progressed into the role of marketing director for Avnet Australia.
Costigan said Avnet was currently looking for someone to fill his vacated role. “We’re looking, it’s hard finding IT staff at the moment,” he said. “Though my role is now regional, it’s based in Sydney, so I can keep an eye on things here.”
