'Pensioner pirate' arrested by Victorian police

The 65 year old has been found to be in possession of over 12,000 pirated movies, music, games and pornographic DVDs.

Victorian police have raided the Doveton home of a 65 year old man, seizing over 12,000 pirated DVDs.

The suspect was in possession of over 9,000 master titles featuring movies, music, video games and pornography.

Police allege he would email a list of these titles to customers, who would make orders online and collect the disc from his house.

The list included movie titles which are still playing in Australian cinemas, such The Dark Knight, The Bank Job and Taken, and popular music titles from Australian artists such as Kylie Minogue.

Police conducted the raid acting on an anonymous tip. This is the fourth Australian piracy arrest in a month instigated by anonymous whistleblowers.

The suspect faces a maximum penalty of $60,500 and/or up to five years jail per offence.

Members of the Australian Federation Against Copyright Theft (AFACT) and Music Industry Piracy Investigations (MIPI) assisted in the investigation.
