Networking vendor, 3Com, and Westcon Group have terminated their distribution agreement.
The decision, which takes effect at the end of August, leaves Ingram Micro the sole distributor of 3Com's product range in the region. 3Com country manager, Grant Howe, said the relationship was ended on account of differing aspirations and strategies.
"Westcon has been a strong partner, but the relationship has changed recently and as a result we had a closer look at the partnership. There was nothing specific that caused the split," he said.
3Com is now evaluating other potential partners. "We're looking to expand on our relationship with Ingram and we expect to be making further announcements regarding distribution partners in a few weeks," Howe said.
Westcon could not be contacted for comment at the time of print. In a statement, Westcon Group managing director, Wendy O' Keeffe, said it had enjoyed a successful long-term relationship with 3Com in Australia.
"As we continue to refine our local and global strategy, it is important we align our portfolio around key vendors that are both synergistic with our core competencies and deliver consistent growth and profitability for Westcon Group and our channel partners," she said in a statement.
3Com recently brought on two new staff and plans to appoint three more. "The business is going strong and we're in expansion mode. We're also still approaching the market with an indirect strategy," Howe said.
