Vocus takes a deep breath with BigAir

Voice and data provider wins transit deal with listed WiMAX network operator

Wholesale voice and data startup, Vocus, has won a contract to provide transit for the network of ASX-listed (ASX:BGL) BigAir.

Vocus CEO, James Spenceley, said the deal was significant, as it was a flagship customer and represented a vote of confidence in the company, which has only recently launched its services in November of last year.

"We've had a stable and promising start, with both voice and data. We're in talks with a number of other ISPs and networks, and we recently launched our first point of presence in the US with fibre optic cabling," he said.

In May, Vocus appointed Dr Paul Brooks as its chief operations officer, bringing the wholesaler's headcount to five. Spenceley said the company's headcount is now at 11, with a couple more appointments to be made in the near future.

Vocus' other partners include ASX listed telecommunications carrier Pipe Networks (ASX:PWK) and Platform Networks.

In a release, BigAir CEO, Jason Ashton, said the startup was chosen based on network quality, value, performance and technical capability.
