Telstra, in conjunction with Netcomm and Sierra Wireless, has released a portable HSDPA, Wi-Fi and Ethernet router that can be used to share an Internet connection wherever there is Next G mobile network coverage.
The new Telstra Turbo 7 Series Wireless Gateway arrives with the launch of a new secure, high-speed service that lets multiple users share a single mobile broadband service.
The device, manufactured by Netcomm with components from Sierra Wireless, will enable businesses to take the network with them on customer visits, to trade and community events, or to temporary work locations like construction sites, according to Telstra.
Telstra is also touting the device as a benefit to families without fixed-line Internet access allowing them to network their homes and share access client devices.
The Telstra Turbo 7 Series Wireless Gateway combines four wired Ethernet ports, Wi-Fi Next G HSDPA and 2.5G connectivity options. It does wireless encryption (WPA) and offers upload speeds of 2Mbps. The product comes with a Next G SIM card.
The wireless gateway is available through existing Telstra retail shops and partners stores such as Dick Smith Electronics.
