Telarus gets Clever with wireless

Service provider, Telarus, has partnered with ASX-listed wireless telecommunications carrier, Clever Communications (ASX:CVA), to rollout a WiMax service.

Organisations receive an uncontended 8Mbps wireless broadband service for a monthly $999 fee. Clever managing director, Scott Carter, said an additional benefit was its locally based engineers and ability to provide 48-hour installation.

The service is targeted at SME and is available in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide. Carter said expansion to Perth could be expected by the end of the calendar year.

Telarus managing director, Jules Rumsey, said the partnership was a result of a close association between the two companies.

"We've known a lot of the guys at Clever for a while and we've worked with some of the organisations Clever has acquired in the past," he said.

Rumsey said the service provider had been fielding requests for connections to handle the next generation of IP communication applications. The deal allowed Telarus to offer wireless services nationally. The company has been providing wireless to customers in Sydney for the past year.

"It's a very topical issue for us. Customers are expecting faster and higher quality connections to handle videoconferencing, VoIP and the like. Fixed wireless options help cover those needs, as well as cover issues such as fibre network rollout costs or DSL black spots," Rumsey said.

"Disaster recovery solutions become possible too, with DSL services being deployed as a backup to the fixed wireless."
