D2K looks to acquisitions

Regional services provider growth plans include new staff and city presence

Queensland regional services provider, D2K, is plotting an aggressive acquisitions strategy as part of plans to grow its presence in major capital cities across Australia.

The company recently acquired fellow regional provider, Teleprint, an imaging and telephony company based in Gladstone. D2K managing director, Matthew Drane, said the acquisition made the company more relevant to the regional Queensland market and was driven by increasing uptake of unified communications.

"Teleprint has a large unified communications install base, so the acquisition gives us a fantastic upgrade opportunity and access to a new customer base," Drane said.

Three of Teleprint's five staff members have been retained in the acquisition. Drane said numbers were reduced to remove some administrative costs. It will also continue to expand into Cairns, Mackay and the Sunshine Coast.

"Some of our clients who have a presence in other states are requesting that we do as well. We've undertaken some negotiations for something in Melbourne, and we'd like to make a move into Sydney soon," Drane said.

D2K focuses on management services and office consumable products. Vendor partners include Cisco, Novell, Microsoft, Telstra, Lexmark and IBM. To drive regional Queensland growth, the company has also appointed Mark Ramm to oversee its new Brisbane headquarters. He will focus on improving D2K's branding and developing software licensing services as a revenue stream.

"D2K wants to create a level of understanding, competency and trust with customers. If organisations don't get it right there are huge financial repercussions," Ramm said.

The office opened in response to customer demand for a city presence, he said.

D2K also maintains offices in Bundaberg, Gladstone, Hervey Bay, Maryborough, Cairns, Mackay and Townsville.

"This is the first step in an aggressive expansion plan. There should be two or three more staff at this location by the end of the year," Ramm said.

He comes to the role with 10 years of channel experience and previously spent two years as an account manager at Express Data. Prior to that he was a partner account manager with Microsoft for two years.
