Coretech takes tablet PCs to Queensland academy

Queensland reseller wins $1 million deal with Queensland Academy

Queensland education reseller, Coretech, has won a tender to supply 400 tablet PCs to the Queensland Academy of Science, Maths and Technology (QASMT). The deal is expected to be worth nearly $1 million.

Coretech sales and marketing director, David Wain, said it would supply Lenovo's X61 tablet machines to two campuses in Toowong and the Gold Coast. The reseller was up against Acer and its channel partner, Fujitsu, as well as HP, for the contract. The PC product commenced last month.

Wain said it was a good win for the company and further cemented its position as a strong education player in that state. There was also room to expand the relationship, he said.

The QASMT is an accelerated learning initiative aimed at the brightest maths and science students from years 10-12 across the state. The Academy, which opened in January, works in partnership with the Queensland University and is focused on building up skills in emerging areas such as nanotechnology and biotechnology. It is complemented by the Academy for Creative Industries and the Queensland Academy for Health Sciences.

Wain said the institution's commitment to accelerated learning and cutting edge technology was behind its decision to choose tablet PCs. The academy win follows Coretech's recent success in the first phase of the Queensland Government's Laptop for Teachers program.

The reseller is supplying 7500 Lenovo Thinkpad R61 notebooks across the state.
