Prefix IT adds performance monitoring for networked apps

Allows users to monitor all networked applications; routers, printers, website response times, and delivery of SLAs

Network management specialist Prefix IT has added performance monitoring of all network attached items to its PrefixNE V.3.5 flagship product.

It means the software will now monitor all IP addressable hardware in real-time and alert the network manager if user-definable performance thresholds are breached, according to the company. Alerts can be sent as on-screen pop-ups, email, or SMS.

The new functionality means that users can monitor all networked applications, such as routers, printers, and website response times, as well as the delivery of SLAs, said Prefix IT.

Other features in PrefixNE V3.5, according to Prefix IT, include Facebook blocking where users can audit, monitor and manage access to prohibited Internet sites or applications and Microsoft licence key collection, which enables network managers to pull licensing details from every networked Windows PC to help with software asset management.

According to the vendor, other modules enable the management of hardware and software assets in real time, deploy security patches, software upgrades and virus updates, manage and deploy software licences, ensure compliance, track software usage, set IT policies, block applications such as P2P, protect data loss from external storage devices, prevent the spread of malicious code and strategically plan for the future based on powerful analysis and reporting.

"Ensuring uptime is still the biggest single issue for IT teams, users of PrefixNE V3.5 are getting another team member with 100 eyes to watch IT assets and report in real-time whenever a potential problem arises," said UK MD Graeme Pitts-Drake.

PrefixNE V3.5 is available immediately and is sold on a modular subscription basis.
