Altech signs high-end GPU, memory vendor

Sydney-based Altech has picked up distribution rights to graphics card vendor, EVGA.

Altech MD, Antony Sheen, said EVGA, known in the industry for its factory-overclocked GPU and memory products, would play a key role in Altech's efforts in the high-end gaming market.

"We have our NRG series of gaming systems and we will now be using EVGA in those systems where appropriate," he said. "Although other vendors now do factory-overclocked GPUs, EVGA pioneered the area."

Sheen said the vendor supplied GPUs to the likes of HP, Dell and its wholly-owned subsidiary, Alienware. That was why he had doggedly chased a distribution deal with the vendor since last November, he said.

"EVGA is huge in the US and big in Europe but hasn't really concentrated on Australia much," he said. "We're actually lucky that its sales and marketing manager is an Australian who understands this market."

Previously, the vendor had some Australian representation through Shadow Entertainment out of Melbourne. The Shadow contract remains unchanged with the signing of Altech.

The vendor builds GPUs based on the 8, 7, 6 and FX family of Nvidia chipsets.

Sheen said the cards could also make their way into media centre PCs because of their strong graphics capabilities.
