Jackar hits the wall

Former Hyundai system trader in more financial trouble

Administrators have been appointed to Jackar Australia, according to a document filed with the Australian Securities and Investments Commmission (ASIC).

Jackar is a South Australian holding company owned by Aron Jackson, whose former ventures in the past decade include companies that have traded variously as Hyundai MultiCAV (Aust), Hyundai MultiCAV, Hyundai Corporate Aust, Hyundai Digital and - this year - system builder, Evolve.

Emails went unanswered and calls by ARN to all of Jackar's four listed SA office landlines today rang out. The fifth, a mobile phone number, was answered by a man who claimed to know nothing about the situation.

"At the moment, I'm on my way to Telstra to change my number because I'm getting all these strange calls," he said.

Evolve last month signed a deal with new-distie-on-the-block LevelOne. Evolve was believed to also have agreements with Alienware Systems and components distie Altech Computer.

LevelOne sales and marketing director, John Robinson, said Evolve had yet to conclude any financial transactions.

"As master distributor, from our point of view, there's no impact. We were about to engage with their business," he said.

Robinson said LevelOne products seemed a good fit with Evolve's range of systems. "They had a good model to go to market," he said. "But we hadn't yet done any financial transactions at all."

Robinson said that Evolve was also the Australian distributor for Alienware - the Dell subsidiary that makes high-end gaming systems.

"[Evolve] were offering a whole range of PC and PC-related products," he said. "They were selling complete systems and sub-systems."

Another of Aron Jackson's previous, oft-renamed ventures also collapsed and entered administration, according to ASIC.

Administrator PPB was appointed mid-2005 to Hyundai MultiCAV - which at one point had been renamed as ACN 098 249 784 Pty Ltd - with debts of more than $1 million.
