Internode partners with Bluebox for Video on Demand

VoD service trials underway with launch expected in Q2 2008

Internode has partnered with Melbourne-based digital content outfit, Bluebox Devices, to provide customers with a locally developed Video on Demand (VoD) service.

Bluebox COO, Getha Somasundaram, said the service would rival the likes of BigPond movies. The Bluebox service is currently going through a three-month beta trial covering Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide. The fully functioning system will be released in Q2 next year, with Somasundaram aiming for national coverage.

"We are testing it with 50,000 customers and talking to other local ISPs," he said. "We have spent a lot of time developing so we can deliver the right environment for customers at the right price."

To obtain the service, customers will need to download a free software application that provides access to the Bluebox library and purchasing methods.

"We are looking to acquire as much content as possible. We have a partnership with destra, which will provide us with content from their current library, and are also talking to other content providers," Somasundaram said.

In December, Internode upgraded its Cisco equipment to prepare for a national ADSL2+ rollout to accommodate for voice and video over IP.
