SAP Tuesday unveiled an upgraded version of its flagship ERP suite that boosts corporate training capabilities, and adds features targeted specifically at the utility, telecommunications and retail industries.
The software said the so-called "enhancement package" to the SAP ERP application is now shipping.
The new features are part of the second package to be shipped under a new upgrade delivery policy that the company unveiled late last year.
At the time, the company said it will no longer ship monolithic product upgrades that force customers to accept every new feature in the product. The new policy lets users select and activate individual features without disrupting the core ERP application backbone.
New offerings in the package include the SAP ERP Human Capital management module and the SAP Enterprise Learning tool, which was jointly developed with Adobe Systems. The latter tool allows companies to host Web-based conferences between a teacher and students in a low cost virtual classroom.
The updated offering also includes an enhanced version of SAP's ERP Operations software, which helps sales personnel more easily access customer data. The updates also include a new user interface for its travel management tool that officials expect will ease the adoption of the software by users.
The industry specific features include a master data management module for the retail industry, invoicing and billing features for telecommunications companies, and new CRM capabilities for utilities, the company said.
