NetWorld gets into Riverbed

Becomes the first local distributor of Riverbed's WAN optimisation products

NetWorld Systems has become the first local distributor for US-based WAN optimisation vendor, Riverbed.

NetWorld will have access to its full Steelhead product portfolio. Marketing director, Nick Verykios, said Riverbed operated in the same space as its former vendor, Exinda Networks, but at opposite ends of the spectrum. NetWorld and Exinda parted ways last month.

"Riverbed is the largest player, whereas Exinda is one of the smallest, so it's a good win for us," he said.

NetWorld CEO, Scott Frew, said Riverbed was searching for a distributor that could help scale its business and provide access to resellers it previously couldn't reach.

The Riverbed range provides organisations with the ability to improve WAN and LAN networking plumbing, whether it's wired or wireless, Verykios said.

Target customers include any organisation that wants to speed up network access or shuttle more applications across multiple branches.

"Partners could be software application builders that need to make their products go faster across the network, like Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, right down to small rural resellers that are trying to connect disparate regional sites on very thin pipes," Frew said.

Resellers would be given access to vendor accreditation, channel and sales training as well as professional services to assist with pre-sales and installation, Verykios said.

Riverbed managing director, Steve Dixon, said it had experienced strong growth since it established a local presence two years ago. It currently has 14 local resellers.

"It got to a point where we were trying to manage all of the logistics and doing everything ourselves. It was too time consuming and we needed to get a distributor involved," he said. "Resellers had to deal with our San Francisco organisation, buy in US dollars and ship from the US. By bringing a distributor in, they can conduct everything here locally at Australian price points."

Dixon said it had chosen NetWorld Systems because of its back-end systems, application efficiency and automation.

"We looked at a number of players in the market and we think NetWorld has the right mix of skills, background, experience and focus," he said.
